Garrison Forest School to host badminton clinic
Calling All Badminton Coaches and Players:
Here's a great way to prepare for the spring badminton season. Dean Shoppe will guide new and old students (and their coaches) through a series of drills that will help both singles and doubles players increase their stroke consistency and court coverage during competition.
Coaches are encouraged to participate!!
An accomplished player, Dean has competed at both the international and national level. Dean was ranked number 1 in the United States in the 90’s. Dean feels his greatest accomplishment was his” #43 world ranking after getting to the round of 32 in the World Championships in England.” He is a two time champion at the Brazil International Badminton Championship. Dean has been a finalist in the US Nationals, the Mexican Open and the Suriname Open as well as reaching the semi finals in the US Open, Mexican Open, Guatemala Open, Brazilian International, Puerto Rico Open, Cuba Cup, and Pan Am Championships. Dean was recognized for his promotion of the sport of badminton by receiving the NAGWS Presidential Award. He spent twelve years as the US Badminton Associations Pan Am Rep as well as holding the title of USAB Junior Badminton Development Chairman.
Clinic Time Table: 8:30 Athletic Center will be open for registration and warm-up 9:00-10:30
Skills and drills that focus on the singles player 10:00-11:00
Break and snacks (bring your own) 11:30-1:00
Skills and drills for the doubles player 1:00
Lunch break 1:30- 4:00
