McDonogh Takes "A" Conference Title with a win over Archbishop Spalding ...
After a slow start to the championship game, McDonogh School was down by 17 points at halftime. As the third period began, it was evident that the Eagles were determined to turn the game around and capture the championship title. Throughout the third period, Taylor Cummings, Tiersa Winder, and Danielle Edwards all scored crucial points for the Eagle's team, which narrowed the gap between McDonogh and Spalding from 17 points to five. Beginning the fourth period with a score of 30-35, both teams fought hard to come out victorious. During the final period the score was very tight as both teams were pushing shot for shot to win the game.Tiersa Winder’s 3-pointer from the corner with 14 seconds left sealed the Eagles’ first basketball championship since they won the final Association of Independent Schools title in 1999. It also continued a 24-game winning streak. as the Eagles defeated the Cavs, 46-44.
The Patriots came home with the B Conference championship after a game full of precise shots and strong defense. Emily Soller scored 15 points for the John Carroll Patriots, with teammates Maria Edwards and Miranda Ripken each contributing 8 points. In addition to a strong offensive game, John Carroll played a very strong defensive game as well. When talking to the Patriots head coach Mike Blizzard after the game, he said "I've been preaching all day that defense wins championships and I believe our defense was the key to winning today's championship." With an intense final period, Maria Edwards and Ashley Hunter combined to make three free throws in the final 10.6 seconds to seal No. 12 John Carroll’s 42-38 victory over St. Mary’s for the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference basketball championship Saturday at UMBC’s RAC Arena
Annapolis Area Christian School Takes "C" Conference with a win over St. John's Catholic Prep .....
Both teams played with all they had in hopes of winning the championship game. AACS player Taylor Murray scored 15 points for her team throughout the game. With three periods complete, the score was tied 26-26. This C Conference Championship came down to the last few seconds of play. Shannon Gierl’s 3-pointer with 7.8 seconds to go lifted Annapolis Area Christian School to a 35-34 victory over two-time defending champion St. John’s Catholic Prep from Frederick for the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland C Conference title Saturday at RAC Arena
