The John Carroll Patriots girl's Basketball team ia advancing to their second straight IAAM B Conference Final on the heels of their 51-36 workman-like win last night over Bryn Mawr. The Pats got off to a quick start led by 2011 All-Conference senior Miranda Ripken who scored 9 of the Patriots 20 first quarter points as John Carroll raced out to a 20-7 lead. Sophomore Yemaya Johnson added 11 points for John Carroll while senior Emily Soller had 9. The Patriots were able to rest many of their starters as they opened up leads of as much as 28 points as they prepare to square off against St. Mary's who beat NDP to get to the final on Saturday. That game will be played at 3:00 PM at UMBC. "St. Mary's is a very under-rated team that has flown under many people's radar; but not ours", said Patriot Head Coach Mike Blizzard. "We know how good they are and they are well coached. A lot of people have not heard about them but it is gonna be a dog fight Saturday. They are on a roll."
John Carroll has now won 20 games in a row including a sweep of the IAAM B Conference in which they have now won 15 in a row. Their season record stands at 22-3. The Patriots last loss came on December 17th to the Hill School in the Beast of the East Showcase. If John Carroll wins Saturday it will be the school's first Championship since 1984 and only the 3rd in school history.
St. John's Catholic Prep reached the finals of the IAAM C Conference Tournament with a 44-29 win Thursday over Catholic High School.
The Vikings (24-3) will play Annapolis Area Christian School at 1 p.m. Saturday at University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
